Paths of unitary access to exceptional points

نویسندگان

چکیده

During the early history of unitary quantum theory Kato's exceptional points (EPs, a.k.a. non-Hermitian degeneracies) Hamiltonians $H(\lambda)$ did not play any significant role, mainly due to Stone theorem which firmly connected unitarity with Hermiticity. recent wave optimism people started believing that corridors a access EPs could be opened leading, say, new picture phase transitions via an {\it ad hoc} weakening Hermiticty (replaced by quasi-Hermiticity). Subsequently, pessimism prevailed (the paths appeared fragile). In way restricted physics closed systems return is advocated here: apparent fragility claimed follow from misinterpretation in its quasi-Hermitian formulation. Several perturbed versions realistic many-body Bose-Hubbard model are chosen for illustration purposes.

Excursion Laws and Exceptional Points on Brownian Paths

The purpose of this note is to present an example of a family of “exceptional points” on Brownian paths which cannot be constructed using an entrance law. Watanabe (1984, 1987) proved that various families of exceptional points on Brownian paths may be constructed using entrance laws. Special cases include excursions of onedimensional Brownian motion within square root boundaries (see Watanabe ...

Exceptional Unitary Representations of Semisimple Lie Groups

Let G be a noncompact simple Lie group with finite center, let K be a maximal compact subgroup, and suppose that rank G = rank K. If G/K is not Hermitian symmetric, then a theorem of Borel and de Siebenthal gives the existence of a system of positive roots relative to a compact Cartan subalgebra so that there is just one noncompact simple root and it occurs exactly twice in the largest root. Le...

Exceptional points in atomic spectra.

We report the existence of exceptional points for the hydrogen atom in crossed magnetic and electric fields in numerical calculations. The resonances of the system are investigated and it is shown how exceptional points can be found by exploiting characteristic properties of the degeneracies, which are branch point singularities. A possibility for the observation of exceptional points in an exp...

Localization of exceptional points with Padé approximants

The strict coalescence of two resonance states may never happen (due to the sensitivity to small external perturbations). However its existence can have noticeable effects on measurable quantities. The coalescence of resonances is associated with Exceptional Points (EPs) in the spectrum of the system under study. The determination of exceptional points is often a hard numerical task, due to the...

Repulsion of resonance states and exceptional points

Level repulsion is associated with exceptional points which are square root singularities of the energies as functions of a (complex) interaction parameter. This is also valid for resonance state energies. Using this concept it is argued that level anticrossing (crossing) must imply crossing (anticrossing) of the corresponding widths of the resonance states. Further, it is shown that an encircl...
